She was born on the day that America suffered the attack that made 9-11 a watchword of our history; the day on which America marked the end of an aura of our invulnerability, September 11th, 2001. She died to become an icon in the violent history of America, killed in a fusillade that left 5 others dead and 14 others wounded including a Member of Congress. She was the youngest of the victims. She was Christina-Taylor Green, age 9.

The 8th verse of the 109th Psalm (King James Version) has swept the Tea Party blogasphere as The Obama Prayer. It reads, “Let his days be few; and let another take his office.” The Tea Partiers take this as evidence of divine opposition to the President and an answer to their fervent prayers.

He was given virtually no chance to win in the Republican Primary for Florida’s vacant seat in the U.S. Senate. The pundits had all but awarded the nomination to incumbent Republican Governor Charlie Crist. His campaign was not without scandal. As Speaker he had charged more than $100,000 to a Florida Republican Party credit card and when Crist called him on it Rubio repaid $5,800 that he acknowledged were personal expenses. Still he parlayed Tea Party support and what conservatives regarded as Crist’s too cozy relationship to the Obama administration into a lead in the polls that drove Crist out of the contest and into a quixotic independent candidacy. Now Marco Rubio is Florida’s Senator-Elect, taking his office with somewhat the same background as had Illinois’ Senator Obama in 2004.

Whether the 2010 election has converted the Party of NO into the Party of HELL NO will be played out in both chambers of Congress in the coming months. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says it is the mission of the Senate Republicans to ensure that President Obama serves only one term. Speaker-in-waiting Boehner said that it is not the time for Republicans to compromise; that it is President Obama who needs to compromise with the Republican agenda. The future of America seems apparent in the tea leaves left in the bottom of the Tea Party cup.

Some reports have this at 200,000 in attendance. I can't really tell if this is important politically or just a whole lot of people having a fun time. Regardless, it's an impressive turnout.
