Champaign City Council Begins Goal Setting - Welcomes Input

http://ci.champaign.il.us/2011/09/12/champaign-city-council-begins-goal-setting-process-welcomes-citizen-input

The Champaign City Council is beginning the process of establishing goals for 2011 – 2013 and invites the public to share their thoughts and ideas about the future goals for the City. The City Council sets the vision for the City and adopts goals every two years to provide direction on City services and priorities. An important part of the goal setting process involves input from the community at large.

To help focus public input, the City is asking citizens to respond to three (3) specific questions:

  1. What are the most valuable services that the City provides for you? Why?
  2. What is the most important issue for the City Council to focus on in the next two (2) years?
  3. If resources were available, what is one new initiative that you would like to see in Champaign?

According to Mayor Don Gerard, “We hope this survey sparks a community-wide dialogue about what is important to the citizens of Champaign. By using a variety of methods, including social media, we want to reach as many people as possible and hear what they have to say.”

The survey questions will be available on the City of Champaign website at http://ci.champaign.il.us/city-council/city-council-goals/ . The survey will also be shared through the City’s Facebook page and twitter. Citizens who do not have access to the internet can mail their survey response to the City Manager’s Office, 102 N. Neil Street, Champaign. All comments must be received by September 30, 2011.

The City also welcomes the community to post these questions on other web and blog sites to generate dialogue on the topics. Any individual or organization that promotes this dialogue can forward a copy of comments received to the City Manager’s Office and that information will be forwarded to the City Council in October with the other comments received by the City.

The City Council held its first goal setting discussion on August 30th. Two additional Special Study Sessions for goal setting will be held on October 11th and 12th. A fourth goal setting session may be scheduled on November 8th if needed. The City Council vision and goals for 2011- 2013 will be adopted prior to the end of this calendar year.

Questions about the City Council Goal Setting process can be directed to the City Manager’s Office at (217) 403-8710.
