City of Champaign

A word from Interim Superintendent Malito

This month I decided to have our new interim superintendent write a piece to introduce himself to the HI readers.

To all:  My name is Bob Malito, interim Supt of Champaign Unit 4.  I am a friend of Jamar Brown and work with him within the Unit 4 school district.

To begin: I wish to say "thank you" to all for the warm welcome to Unit 4 as their interim Supt. I am proud to be here.  And I am proud to be working with the Champaign community and with the Unit 4 Board of Education.  As the new person, "I need your help."

I ask your ideas, suggestions, and thoughts.

The Board of Education and I want to move and take our school district to a higher level of academic success for all students.

Since many of you may not know me, I will be working hard to meet and talk with you and many others.  I will strive to earn your trust and respect.

This school year, the Board of education and I will focus upon: academic achievement for all students, having a safe school environment, operating within our budget, and  increasing our communication and visibility.

Some citizens have indicated that  we have lost your trust or confidence. We will work very hard to earn that trust back.  We will increase our partnerships and relationships throughout the Champaign area.

Plus, we do have the important task of planning and preparing for the selection/hiring  of our new permanent Supt.  On September 12 and 13,  the Chicago based search group will be here to meet, to listen,  and to talk with our citizens, parents, and Unit 4 staffs to identify the traits and characteristics that we want in our future Supt. There will be many meetings, but a big gathering will be at Centennial high school at 7:00 PM on Monday, September 12th.  Please consider attending that large public group meeting, and please offer your ideas.

As I conclude this message, again, I ask for your help and your support.

"Success"  is based upon people working together.  Thus, working together we will be successful for Unit 4 and,  most importantly, for our students.

Naturally, you can contact me at the Unit 4 office and through Jamar Brown.

Thank you.   Bob Malito, Unit 4 interim Supt.
